In a different time, an old life,
Existed a man, unlike what is—
I understood many hows, whys,
Remained irrelevant; better simple.
In a different life, I was a man,
She was a woman—we were lovers;
Few things in life bore simplicity
As such, not even time was close.
I am older but not old, yet,
Enough, I have felt, with the world—
Enough, please, of the life, the love,
And things that slow time, yet don’t last.
