His infectious laughter!
He wriggles in my hold—
He looks for a way out;
He finds my arms locked,
He looks up, surprised,
Or pretending to be,
And laughs so heartily!
I turn away, with tears—
Those of joy are hotter,
When you cannot control
Their trickles out—I cry;
He notices—water, water
On Papa’s cheeks; water?
He observes Papa closely
And breaks into laughter—
O’, how it fills and fills me,
Till my heart raptures,
With love from within!
