Unwind (A Poetic Chain): IV of VI

Prev.: Unwind: III

(Your hold...)

It is the dead of night:
lovers are up,
dreamers are up,
the sad, the lonely,
the angry, the hurt,
are up late.
Am I?
Am I a lover, a dreamer?
Am I sad, lonely?
Am I angry, am I hurt?
Am I not? —
Am I not up late?

It is the dead of night,
and my mind is in trouble
because, somehow,
I let you in there
and you managed to turn
everything upside down.
I lie, on this side and that side;
I lie, on my upside and backside—
nothing seems to work.
You have me in your hold,
and will not let me go,
even though
we are not together anymore.
