Unwind (A Poetic Chain): III of VI

Prev.: Unwind: II

(Without sleep and without you...)

What is sleep and where do we go?
I can now wonder, I can now ponder,
minute after minute—pure sacrifice
of some comfort, rest, and some quiet.
But my mind is not quiet,
because you are in there,
and yet, you are not really there.
I have trouble sleeping
because you are not with me.

I moved closer to my brother,
I can hear him snore, most nights
(all nights, maybe? I should not say!)
He is asleep, but where is he, really?
I know I am close, listening,
wondering and pondering
about sleep and about you
because you are not with me.
A prison of my making, isn't this?
I cannot rest, find comfort,
some peace, and quiet,
because you are not with me.
