The Traveler With Dreams: Flash Fiction

The world felt less real the more Natalie thought about it. She lay as she mostly did on afternoons, her back on the earth, and closed her eyes. When she opened them, she for a few seconds marveled at the sky’s beauty.

Birds sang as she turned to her side. There was always much life there. Children played somewhere, bustles up and down the streets, some whistling, chatter, and clanks amidst roars of laughter.

She watched them, smiling and feeling herself distance farther from reality. She desired it all.

Natalie walked to a park and sat on a bench. She looked up to the sky and wished for forever.

She would wake, as always, and time would be much gone. What was the rush in this hellish version dubbed “reality” anyway? She lived, desiring, waiting, dreaming…
